FAQs
What are the main purposes of the Entry Gate Reconfiguration Project?
To improve safety, community and guard security, circulation, and traffic flow.
What is the benefit of the extended survey?
This initial planning can position the CSD to complete the gate project with a better outcome than previously envisioned. Based on the 2020 Community Survey, our community has very high priorities for both the Entry Gate and emergency exit capabilities.
The cost to examine the gate reconfiguration possibilities with an eye towards effective evacuation is relatively insignificant. A benefit is that, if applicable, this aspect of the project aligns with the recently approved Kern County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan and would put us in a high-priority position for grant funding to offset the cost of the improvements.
Will this improve our emergency exits strategies?
Emergency evacuation is a secondary benefit to the gate project, but it is potentially a very effective exit strategy. Other alternatives will be explored, but they have the inherent problem of private land ownership that the entry gate does not.
Does the reconfiguration include a better turnaround for unauthorized visitors?
Creating an effective turnaround barrier to unauthorized visitors has always been a part of the design concept work.
Will this include more RFID lanes for when traffic is backed up?
With more space available for additional lanes, we will look at traffic backup problems and solutions as part of the planning process.
